I am always looking ahead to see what the needs of people are. Then, I do what needs to be done so that the needs are met and others who follow after will not have to struggle.
Before coming into IS, I felt there was a gap for students leaving high school and entering university. I want to bridge that gap with a transitioning program that will help these students sooner with their university experience.
Early in my pre-thesis phase, I was the President of the ISSOC, the IS representative with the Federation of Students and doing a minor in psychology. I also participated on several committees within the community, one of which coordinates the annual Black History Launch in February.
In December 2009, my studies led me to the University of the West Indies (UWI) Mona campus in Kingston, Jamaica where I have taken psychology courses in the winter 2010 and fall 2010 terms in an effort to satisfy my psychology minor. This decision meant that I had to relinquish my leadership position as ISSOC president and my FED seat.
I have completed the two terms thus far but before taking classes at UWI, I initiated talks for an exchange program between UW and UWI in the summer of 2009. I am happy to say an agreement was reached for the exchange program that commenced fall of 2010.
Currently I am still in Jamaica. I am still amassing more knowledge about the culture while gaining valuable experience as a volunteer at a private prep school.
