This is a forum for current and former students to discuss issues relating to the IS program and to their studies, as well as to just generally chat, trade stories, and relax. Do, please, make use of this forum to connect with your fellow students, and to ask for or offer advice. After all, IS is a bit different from other undergraduate programs. ;)
NB: our Facebook admin confirms your IS affiliation before your "friend" status is issued -- which may take a couple of days.
The Independent Students Society (IS SOC) exists to support and provide services to the IS student body for both the work and research of IS students and their extra-curricular activities.
Fees paid by IS students to the Society have also helped pay for facility improvements in the past such as the purchase of custom-made furniture for the IS lounge, multi-media equipment, and various books and supplies. Plans are underway to acquire other resources for students working at the IS offices - provide any further suggestions to the IS SOC Executive team.
IS SOC members are active in maintaining the quality of the IS program by hosting student presentations each term, consulting with IS faculty and administration on an on-going basis, and representing students at IS admission interviews and thesis project proposal meetings.
IS SOC members also make IS known at various events where UW Student Clubs and Recreation groups are promoted.
IS SOC Executive typically serve for one (calendar) year, and are usually elected in September of each year.
